This is straight from Jerry at Interstate -

there are only two (2) real big Lead Acid battery manufactureres in the US,.
Exide and Interstate, they make every battery you see in the marketplace
from Walmart to Diehard to PepBoys, generally, the Interstate branded
batteries are of much higher quality than those they make for others like
Walmart & K-Mart that have cheaper contact bonding. The OPTIMA SLA
brand, ( owned by Interstate ) ( Owned by Johnson Controls ), is the best
they make,... it's a near dry SLA ( not flooded ) battery, made of a spiral
wrap H2SO4/mylar laminate. cost 60% more than a Flooded Lead acid, but
has 15 times the life, and they never leak.
Adjustments ( meaning warranty ) happens to only 2% of Optima product, were
as the flooded type have a 5% adjustment rate. They recommended the D31M
or D34M, deep cycle - high current Marine battery by OPTIMA. ( blue top )

The larger Exide on the other hand is operating in bankruptcy, the CEO is
in prison for insurance fraud, and Interstate is waiting to pounce on them,
or at least their factories, customers and assets. Keep tuned.

The Genisys SLA by smaller Hawker (enersys), seems to have slightly poorer
specs than the OPTIMA, for more money. One thing for sure, battery
technolgy is changing as is the marketplace and players.
