[ausev] OPEN GARAGE: 8-6-2006 12:30 -- Ranger battery swap

The results from Sunday were pretty minimal.  Mark Witt can probably
elaborate further, but my [re]discovery was that the pack is much taller
than I'd recalled, up in front where they have a second layer of
batteries.

Essentially, lowering the 1900-lb pack and raising the remainder of the
truck to clear it, are two completely separate problems which must both be
solved. And the height to which the truck must be lifted will be difficult
to achieve at both ends.  If we can get away with only having to lift it
at one end (the front) then we might be able to do it with an engine
hoist.  If not, then we will have to get more creative, or rent a bay with
a lift that can grab the vehicle from the sides.

Lowering the pack is probably doable with Witt's palette jack though it
will be tricky. Otherwise it might be a job for a mid-rise scissor lift,
which would also be nice to have for raising cars:
