[Ausev] Hymotion

Well, I'm not sure if I'm reading you right, Aaron - the Hymotion kit does allow you to plug in. In fact, it is an add-on battery, and not a replacement. One "telling" thing to me is that at the auto show their Prius was a "working demonstrator" while the Escape was a "mockup". I wonder if they should have gotten some orange crepe paper and mocked up the raging lithium fire we can expect after the thermal runaway kicks in, since they do not have the patented Valence Saphion technology ;-). But seriously folks, it is suspicious when you say you are filling fleet orders, but can't scrape one up for your auto show debut. They also go out of their way to explain how "no factory parts will be replaced or removed" but do not explain how they convince the Escape's engine managment computer to stay in "EV mode".

Hymotion's headquarters is in Toronto, but they say they have an office in Boston and 5 "subcontractor facilities" in North America (and I'll bet these people actually include Canada and Mexico when they say North America) so if one is in Houston, that's pretty good.

Rock on,
Danny

"local" reseller/installer for Texas is somewhere in Houston

They are only taking orders for fleet purchases at this time.

5kWh Li-ion battery kit is $9500 for orders over 100.

 Hey Daniel,

Can you tell us more about the Hymotion kit? Everything we have heard
from the Cal Cars folk and the California EAA people seems to be
implying that that they are the only guys working on extending the EV
only range of vehicles and producing a kit. Yet, here is a Canadian
company showing a finished product... Is it that the Hymotion kit
doesn't allow the vehicle to be plugged in? Is it a shipping product?
When we went to their site the other day, they mentioned that we could
contact our local reseller???? Who would that be?

Did you get any more informatinon about that?

 Cya,

 Aaron

I am testing the new mailing list (thanks, Aaron!) with a reminder for
anyone who hasn't seen the Plug In Partners campaign kickoff (sponsored
by Ausin Energy back on 24 Jan) to check out the webcast available from
 their home page [LINK: http://www.pluginpartners.org]

The press conference was certainly effective at creating a "buzz". I
don't know how well it communicated the goal "to demonstrate to automakers
that a market for flexible-fuel Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles exists
today" - it came off more like "what is a PHEV, and why is it so great?"
but maybe that is the essential first message before trying to establish
 the number of potential buyers.

I believe the Plug In Partners will end up UNDERestimating the market,
since they are asking for people to "pledge to strongly consider
purchasing" a vehicle they haven't even seen. I wonder how many people
in 1971 would have still said they wanted an "American made small car"
if they had known it would be a Pinto, Chevette, or Pacer.

Interestingly, two days after the press conference I stumbled apon the
Ford Escape Flex-Fuel Hybrid at the D.C. Auto Show. It was listed as a
concept, but it certainly seemed produceable since Ford already offers
an E85 compatible engine option on the Taurus, Ranger, and Explorer.
More recently, Hymotion showed their plug-in upgrade kit for the Escape
Hybrid at the Canadian International Auto Show (in Toronto, eh).
 Interesting!
