all,

I also came across a good analysis of ethanol as a fuel. It compares
some concepts from Brazil, incorporating the idea that it is better than
corn even to import it except for internal US subsidies and tarriffs on
imported sugar. The tie between US farming practices and trade really
starts to impact the decision more than engineering or thermodynamics!

Also, for those with time, I just viewed an online presentation by Dr.
Holtzapple at TAMU. He is working on a new engine and deriving biofules
from waste. It is quite informative (some of the same information but
presented well) on global warming, fossi fuel supplies and consumption,
and Holtzapple's ideas for the future that he is working on.

I don't know how long that link will still work.
