I restored an old Kaman Ghia, no AC, etc and it was totally rusted out in
unibody channels used as heat runs, etc. Major work, happy to have daughter sell
it and get a newer car.
It appears that installing electric in any old car will not have AC, and
this is Texas!
Sorry to be a downer, but replacing floor pans and side channels to hold
extra battery weight might be the beginning of the end for an older Ghia.

I saw at least one Karman Ghia at one of y'alls local events, so I
thought I'd let you know of one that a friend of mine is selling.
However, I also would like her to think about getting it modified to an
EV so thought I'd throw out the gauntlet in case anyone on this list
would like to make a proposal to do a conversion.

While I haven't seen it, I have seen advice on this mailing list about
getting a nice/comfortable car to use for conversion projects. So
thought this might be a candidate: (although a new Lexus might be
better)

Here's the skinny:
1966 VW Karman Ghia
Manual Transmission
Driveable: "runs fine" with 59,000 miles.
No A/C

More:
"In the process of being fully restored. New: upholstery, (most) body
seals, interior carpet and pads, battery, exterior paint, seat belts,
interior panels.

"The doors don't shut quite right, but it's a matter of adjusting the
catch mechanism. I'm working on that.

"I will be putting it up for sale starting at $8,000.00..."

So, hope this is of some interest to y'all,

Austin, TX

(wanna buy a new EV in 2008)
