Hey Chris,
  What would really be cool is some sort of decision matrices for building
any kind of EV.
 For example, a range of gross weights, and "X" motor,
"Y" voltage, and "Z" batteries would generally get you
 "A" distance at "B" speed with "C" "start and stops"
non-regen or "D" "start and stops" with regen as estimates for us beginners
to finalize what's feasible as first projects.
Another matrix regarding cost vs. distances and battery volumes currently
available.
 Timing of component availability would help, since you mentioned delivery
backlogs at one supplier.

 The 1994 ev book is somewhat out-of-date with regard to costing, so, it
sure would be a great help there as well.
(Though it is great for overview).
