Chris,
  THANKS! That's the place.
I just got back from the BMW motorcyle dealership and also the Woods Fun
Center on Braker/IH35.
The BMW dealer was really really interested in my plan.
He said while an offset of cost against a new motorcycle with engine, etc
resale could work, it would be far better to spend a lot less on a good used
motorcycle.
The differentials on the various ATV's at Woods did not look like they
would be robust enough. Although I did like the idea of an integral disc
brake rotor on one design in particular, (another had an integral drum brake
assembly), the idea of a simple pinion and spider gearset was not
appealing, even though the rear track is to be less than 34 inches with
fiberglass body.
Erik mentioned a golf cart differential.
How about a golf cart scrapyard? It looks like the final drive needs to
be the first point of the decision making process for this first one. It
does make more sense that a golf cart load capactiy as well as the
acceleration inertial loads would be handled very nicely with Erik's
suggestion of a golf-cart rear axle. I need to go see one somewhere.

Dan.
