Rene,

I'm new to all this too, and just bought a few books and have been
bookmarking websites daily.

The books I got (from http://www.kta-ev.com/catalog/index.html ,
http://rqriley.com/index.html and
http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_ss_e/103-8073769-2102263?url=search-alias
%3Daps&field-keywords=convert+it&Go.x=0&Go.y=0&Go=Go) are listed below,
with my initial impressions;

Convert It by Michael Brown
- great short and simple explanation of conversions

Build Your Own Electric Vehicle by Bob Brant
- 1994, but still good technical information

Alternative Cars in the 21st Century by Robert Q.Riley
- great idea book for vehicles and transportation. You should see the
cars that GM, Ford and VW have designed and tested (then shelved).

Doran kit car plans
- no real conversion info, but I wanted to get plans for a 3-wheeler.
Missing a lot of detail, but enough to build the chassis and body.

I'll bring these to Fredericksburg if anyone wants to browse through
them.

Some conversion kits/parts/services sites;

orgs;

conversions;

http://www.evconvert.com/
http://www.cameronsoftware.com/ev/Welcome.html

and of course, surfing from these sites will lead you to hundreds of
other sites with more information.

Subject: [ausev] EV Help, Info, books...

Dear AustinEV,

	My name is René Pinnell. I am an electric car enthusiast here in

Austin and I am very interested in converting my 1972 Volkswagen
Fastback to an EV, however I'm a little overwhelmed by the amount of
info I need to absorb. I've checked out practically every book on the
subject UT has to offer but they are either out of date or far too
technical. What I really need is someone who's already done a
conversion or who is really knowledgeable to point me in the right
direction. I would very much appreciate recommendations on books,
suggestions of companies to buy components from, or more general
advice about things like should I go AC or DC.
	I'm fairly mechanically minded (with some help I restored my
Fastback) but I have no experience with EVs. I feel very strongly
about removing myself from the pollution and oil dependency
equation. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks
René Pinnell
