Transaxles in general, last a long time.. I am driving a Toyota tercel with over 300,000 on it (automatic). That said, it is not too hard to convert from auto to manual if you have a manual donor car. You need the transaxle and the pedal assembly. Trying to do it piecemeal is tough unless you have a buddy at the wrecking yard, the little stuff (brackets, linkage, etc..) will nickel and dime you to death..
