By comparison, AMD (Advanced Motors and Drives, formerly Advanced DC)
makes part A00-4009, a 6.7" diameter motor that does 6HP continuous at
72V, and weighs 50 lbs. It's available new for around $600.

Google hit)

Their K91-4003 is about the same size, and delivers 8hp continuous with
96V and weighs 60 pounds.

These small motors are often used in motorcycle or trike projects. I
would not put one in anything larger than an NEV or a microcar like a
classic Mini or similar.

The A00-4009 is the same continuous output as the GE motor in the ad, at
around 1/5th the weight. One would definitely expect some
differentiation between motors built for different applications and with
different standards for quality and durability. Nevertheless I remain
curious of how the GE motor could be so massive for so little power.
