[ausev] Going in Reverse?

Hello All,
 Here is a real newbie question for u. If I use a
manual transmission without the clutch, how is it
possible to shift to reverse? I have see some
conversions that use a electric switch to control
direction, Is the direction changed by the
motor-controller?
