[ausev] Going in Reverse?

Hi John,

With electric you don't "need" a clutch. That is because the motor
doesn't idle, so the transmission input shaft is not spinning when you
are stopped. You just stop and slip it in reverse. Just don't try to
put it in reverse while in motion.

It is also possible to reverse the motor, but if you have a manual
transmission I would go with that. Reversing the motor requires
reversing the field winding polarity. That is done with four
contactors. The down side of that is extra high power parts and motor
brush timing issues.

Subject: [ausev] Going in Reverse?

Hello All,
Here is a real newbie question for u. If I use a
manual transmission without the clutch, how is it
possible to shift to reverse? I have see some
conversions that use a electric switch to control
direction, Is the direction changed by the
motor-controller?

Thanks, John in SA
PS Happy Holidays!
