Hi Elizabeth,
I just wanted to let you know that before I had my
1986 Honda Civic converted (which I love! 60 mph and
40+ mile range), I had contemplated a Xebra. I
finally decided I was better off with a conversion for
the following reasons.
1. The conversion costs less (I know someone who does
conversions here in Austin if you are interested. He
would also be a good person to help your Henney to be
roadworthy if you should decide to go that route. You
could see if its present owner would let you take it
to him and get a quote.
2. The conversion goes faster, and has comparable
range (try driving 40 mph on various roads with a
regular automobile, with other cars around, and see
what you think, remembering that this is the top speed
of the Xebra)
3. The conversion is safer. The Xebra is rated as a
motorcycle, so it doesn't have to meet all the safety
standards of a regular automobile.
4. The Xebra is a new vehicle, so it required a lot
of petroleum just to make it. A used vehicle isn't
using any "new" petroleum in manufacturing it (or a
comparatively negligible amount).
There you have it. The Xebras are cute, they do have
that going for them :). No offense intended to anyone
who has a Xebra; these are just my preferences.
Hope this helps, and good luck in your quest. I am
sooo pleased that I am not fueling up anymore, and
doing my part for the environment. You will be,
too!!!
