What "maintenance" worries are there with solar panels?  It's all
solid state electronics.  That's why most panels come with 25-30 year
waranties inclusive of 80mph winds and 1 inch hail.  (Or at least my
panels included hail and wind damage as being covered.)

In Austin, with the rebates and all... you are crazy not to buy solar
panels.   The economics are much easier to calculate than with an EV.
The installers are quite happy to calculate how much electricity your
roof will generate.  I figure I have a 10 year payback period, and
then I'm in the money.  (And that's if electricity rates stay
constant...  Damn that "Green Choice" being sold out.)
