In California, where the meters can run backwards, we don't need 
batteries.  We "sell" electricity to the grid in the midafternoon at 
19¢ per kwh then buy it back in the evening at 7.5¢ per kwh.  It's 
possible to get a zero bill this way, but they won't cut you a check.
