The flywheel is one of the three primary parts required for the clutch (1- pressure plate, 2- clutch disk, and 3- flywheel).  If you do not plan on using a clutch, you won't need it.  Personally, I recommend keeping the clutch simply because if you plan to shift gears while moving, while it will work, it is hard on the transmission's synchronizers because the motor armature is more massive than a clutch disk.
