The big number is the added weight of the batteries. By the time you add
the weight of the batteries to both, the weight advantage of the sandrail
is not as big as it first looks.  
My Geo has 860 lbs of batts, and at 120v gets right at 1 amp per mile per
1000 lbs, in my daily highway commute(up to 65 mph for about half of the
trip). 

If you are going to add skin, the weight advantage is less still.
