Hi Roy,

Out of curiosity do you know what's wrong?

I took my motor to Tomecek Electric Motor Repair in Taylor. Dropping
it off was a little disconcerting, as I was told to I placed it on the
ground near a whole bunch of other motors to be worked on, described
what I wanted done and was on my way. I got a call in about 10 days
and they said it was ready.

They had relaquered all of the windings, turned and grooved the comm,
cleaned a far too conductive brush holder, generally cleaned the
inside and given the outside a fresh coat of paint. That being said,
all I really asked for was to turn and groove the comm, but they found
the brush holder failing the insulation test. It ended up being a few
dollars more than I thought (250-350 I think), but the guys working on
the motors really knew their stuff and honestly everything they did is
something that should've been done. I'd say they're generally a good
place to take a motor.

What is neat about this, is this motor has been through at least five
or six years of service and the top to bottom tune up is around $300.
This probably wouldn't have even been needed, save cleaning the brush
holder, if I hadn't tried to "smooth" the comm myself and end up
royally messing it up.

The other place I called is Hamilton Electric on Airport. Don't know
much about them.

Oh and if you don't want your motor to end up industrial gray, I'd
make it VERY clear :)
