There's one thing he shows in the picture but doesn't really mention
specifically. If you have a newer home or have had electrical work done
such that your dryer outlet has been updated to comply with current
electrical code, you'll have a 4-prong (NEMA 14-30) outlet instead of the
common older 3-prong standard (NEMA 10-30). In both standards, the
L-shaped blade is neutral and the other two are "hot".

With the old 10-30, there is no ground connection so we're forced to use
the neutral for a ground. It's a practice that's frowned on these days but
it's relatively safe especially if it's the only outlet on that circuit.

If you have the newer 14-30 outlet with 4 blades, you'll want to get a
corresponding plug and while setting it up, be sure to leave the neutral
blade unconnected. You may even want to remove it, as shown on the 14-30
plug in the picture (which will also fit into a 14-50 outlet, hence the
marking).
