Nick was/is the youngest AustinEV member to have converted a vehicle. He
did this while he was in high school. The San Antonio group didn't exist
at the time. He was one of ACEAA's founding members, but has since moved
to the Chicago area to go to school there.
What he's done here is a good standard to follow for vehicles that can
charge at 240VAC. Farver's cords are set up the same way, as are mine.
The idea is to standardize on L6-30 twistlocks, which are durable, easy to
handle and available from any hardware store. Make your long cord with
this type plug and connector (inline outlet), and then make short adapters
for the plug end so you can plug into whatever outlets you expect to run
into. This is especially helpful for the Manzanita Micro chargers, which
automatically adjust to input voltage allowing a wide range of outlet
options.
I also have a few adapters for the vehicle end and parts for making them,
in an attempt to allow my cords to power different vehicles as well, which
can be useful at events. For your own cord set, this is unnecessary
assuming you use an L6-30 inlet for your vehicle.
As another standard on the DC side, I always bring my 50 amp charger to
events and if you have a slower charger you can take advantage of it if
you like. It's a lot more quick and convenient to do so if you have an
Anderson SB50 connector between your charger and battery pack. (Not
necessary for OEM vehicles. :-)
