[ausev] Ford/Siemens/Bollard AC motor - NYET! Regeneration in DC - HOW?

During my initial planning, I got mired in lots of small optimizations that
are not really my core design motivations. I remember hours spent talking
about the "parking plug option" for a direct drive transmission as a must
have feature. Regen is a nice feature of an AC system, but not a rationale
for buying one.

If budget and getting on the road quickly are important (they were for me)
then start with a DC system. For example, Larry Elliot (another electric
RAV4 linked from my blog) wanted an EV showcase for his 3rd project so he
chose AC. If you want to maximize your range or performance then consider
an AC system and/or advanced batteries.

My $0.02
