Oh, it works. Microwave beams can transmit lots of power. But it
wipes out birds that fly through the beam. And maybe airplanes.
It's hard to get insurance for this.
One of Tesla's ideas used RF, lower frequency than microwave, that
transmitted in all directions instead of in a beam. Take a long
flourescent tube and hold onto one end of it while you point the
other end toward a radio transmitting tower and you'll see the effect
from as uch as a block or so away. Ham radio antennas work too, only
you have to get a bit closer.
