I need to make a correction, I suppose.
I'd heard that going clutchless meant that you WOULD get a jolt when
starting from a stop. I don't know, I've never driven an EV with or without
a clutch!
EVAmerica claims that in their clutchless design "the springs in the clutch
disk absorb the initial shock from the motor".
This design eliminates the flywheel and clutch plate (perhaps 30 lbs) and
uses the clutch disc to make the connection between motor and trans.
