Guys and gals, I am Dan and have been lurking mostly on the side lines. I just talked to one of my neighbors, we call him "Battery Bob". He is a Regional Rep for Advance Battery Co. Their primary line is made by East Penn Co, the factory label is Deka brand. (And they sell under a variety of labels.) He is very aware of the deep cycle needs of the EV users and feels he can help us, both with any of several battery types, and with pricing. He mentioned that he would treat the EV group as a "dealer", and sell to the members at dealer pricing. I did not have model numbers with me when I spoke to him, but he is already selling the electric scooter people. And has some newer technologies for trolling motor batteries, etc. I have know him for at least 10 years, and he has helped me and other neighbors with (mostly) regular auto battery issues. He has always been very fair and prompt. I have no problem with recommending him.
Last, East Penn (battery?) Co is operating a zero emissions lead smelter, making all of the parts of the batteries, and recycles all of the battery parts. Specifically lead, case, and acid.
He is willing to talk to the group about basic battery technology and what's available for EV usage.
Contact info: Bob Thomas bobt at advancebattery.net direct cell 512-788-1955. Austin office: 1704A Benchmark, 512-251-2889. For other areas, they have a San Antonio office, (210-657-1060), and intend to open a Fort Worth office next near.
I hope he can help us, as I have been waiting for better battery prices before looking into my own conversion. Thanks, Dan
