[ausev] Texas registration for a EV conversion

The safety inspection was humorous. A lot of check marks and not a lot
of testing. The guy who did mine came back from the drive and had a
big smile and asked where he could buy one. The only test I was
worried about was the gas cap test, since I don't have a gas cap
anymore. I got mine inspected the last two years at Richards
Automotive, or something like that. It's on Lamar a little South of
Braker.
I don't know what happens if you convert an OBDII car, where the
emissions testing is done by hooking up to the car's computer. Anyone
reasonable can look at it and see there aren't any emissions to check,
but that might not jive with the forms they fill out and report to the
state. Anyone around here converted an OBDII car??
As far as registration, I went in and asked to try and get the fuel
type changed to something besides gas and eventually got a "we don't
do that". It's actually registered as a diesel, because apparently
Travis county doesn't do emissions testing on diesels. Talk about a
loophole you can drive a truck through. It might matter who you talk
to and how early in the morning it is, but I was upfront with what I'd
done with my car and all they wanted to do was hand me my sticker and
get to the next person in line.
