Also... businesses can take a tax credit for 30% of the value of
"qualified alternative fuel vehicle refueling property", which
includes but is not limited to property used to "Recharge motor
vehicles propelled by electricity." (limited to $30,000 for
business/investment use property or limited to $1,000 for personal use
property) See http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/f8911.pdf

On my 2007 return I claimed a $200 credit for the cost of adding a 50A
breaker, running 200ft of #6-3 wire to my garage, and installing a 50A
NEMA plug in my garage.

On a brief, and mostly off-topic note, I was at the Arboretum REI this
past Saturday, and there was a lady in front of the store from Texas
Natural Gas hawking the Honda Civic GX NGV. The gas company is
offering $3000 to anyone who purchases a Natural Gas powered car. She
seemed strangely interested and terrified when I told her about my
electric car and all the other electric car work that is going on in
Austin.

I laughed when she told me that it took 16 hours to fill the 8 gallon
CNG tank on the Honda Civic GX NGV from the Phill home refueling
station... Honda also cleverly installed the CNG tank to take up
2/3rds of the trunk.
