But we have been discussing Series Hybrids. Only the electric motor will drive the wheels.
The second motor is only to power the generator. First one was invented by Porsche in 1901 .

It's time for 107 year-old technology to make a comeback.

Bug engines were discontinued because the Bug couldn't pass the US 1977 vehicle safety act. The reason convertibles were made until 79 is that verts were given a 2 year grace period so they stopped being able to sell them in the US in 79. They were still made and sold in Mexico and Brazil until the 90s.

Before you decide to build a car with two motors direct driving the wheels, esp with the driven wheels being front wheels, do yourself a favor go buy a rc car with 3 diffs. Drive it around a bit to get a good feel for how it turns. Then lock the center diff, lock the front diff and remove the rear drive shaft. it will push something horrible. With out a controller that can handle acting as your diff, you will have similar results. And yes I did try individual belt drives to the wheels on an RC and can tell you that it feel about the same as a locked diff. Verry pushy.
