[ausev] Weatherising my EV... any suggestions?

I am about to drop my motor/transmission into my car and it has occured to me more than once that i want to protect this assembley from damage. To what lengths should i got to in protecting the engine compartment?
 
in normal day to day use i would think the motor should be able to put up with some degree of dirt wet etc.
 
but we are talking about a big magnet with lots of electricity. So what are some of the more seasoned converters suggestions?
