I hope you didn't discourage me either. :-) I am just starting to look into this and really haven't priced it and don't know all the parts I need. This guy says he did it for $350http://www.evalbum.com/1846 Is the main expense you are talking about the motor? I know about what the batteries should cost. What other expenses would there be?

Welcome Will,
I don’t want to discourage you, as I too have thought
about converting to an electric riding mower. But if you think a new
mower is too expensive, your expectations on conversion component costs are too
low. New mowers are probably cheaper ($800-$2000) than what it will take
you to convert (up to $2000 in parts plus man hours), however converting one
will still be cheaper than buying a new electric riding mower ($6000).

I just joined this group in hopes of getting some
answers. I want to convert a riding lawn mower to electric. It is
throwing a rod and is too old to replace the engine cost effectively. I
really don't want to sink the money into a new mower. So I thought
converting this would be a good project. I did some web searches and was
surprised there was not more information on doing this. I figured an EV
group could point me in the right direction. If this isn't a good place
to get this help can someone point me to a place that is?
Thanks,
Will
