The original note with the flyer attachment was too big and was filtered by
the austinev server. Let me know if you would like to see the flyer (223Kb)
and I'll email it directly to you.
Thanks,
Gary

Good to meet so many of you at the last meeting and see the conversions.
The discussion with Brewster McCracken was interesting and very informative
as to Austin Energy's direction. I'm glad to hear that public outlets may
be part of any new parking garage construction, although the
pay-as-you-charge system didn't sound like a "shovel-ready" project coming
in the near future. In the interim, I'll move forward with talking with
businesses one by one and get a handful of outlets available for EVs across
Austin.
Before engaging anyone formally, I just wanted to post here with my draft of
a flyer for your review and see if anyone has an issue with me speaking on
behalf of the Austin Area Electric Automobile Association. I would really
like to get Austin Energy or the City of Austin to endorse this effort as
well, but they haven't responded yet. Nonetheless, I don't see any problem
with staring this as a grass-roots effort and having them sign on later,
once they see some participation from local business. I've attached the
flyer to this note, so let me know if it gets filtered off by the server.
Of the local businesses and parking garages in Austin, which would be the
most valuable to go after first? Some suggestions:
- Central Market (both North Lamar & Westgate)
- Whole Foods (both North at Gateway & on 6th)
- Sun Harvest
- The Domain
- Alamo Movie Theaters
- Parking at City Hall
- Ampco Parking (5th & Lavaca, 100 Congress, 98 San Jac, and 9th & San Jac)
There are tons of HEBs, but I'm just looking for Top 10 places for the first
pilot effort. The parking garages seem like the easiest, since you pay for
parking anyway and so they would feel somewhat compensated for any kWhrs
taken. For everyone else, it can be justified by simply encouraging EV
owners to shop there and PR to show that they are green-friendly.
Anything near the hike and bike trail around Town Lake? Anything near
Barton Pool? I checked out Barton Pool itself and didn't find any
convenient existing outlets.
Anyway, let me know what you think.
