check out the gross weights also. the best conversions have a large
curb weight to gross weight delta. the 4-place audi may have an
advantage there, along with more battery space. both manual
transmission? lot's of other things to consider like complexity of late
model cars - removing the ICE and computer may disable some features.
the miata has an advantage of having a large following - aftermarket
parts (beefed up suspension and brakes) and hackers that may be able to
help with ABS, instrumentation, or other things that may be affected.
check evalbum for examples of both and talk to the owners - one audi A2
and seven miata's. sounds like you would have some real data on miata's
and help with the conversion design from other's for the miata.
reliability will be a factor of the quality of components selected and
quality of installation. if done well, they should be very reliable.
maintenance would be mostly batteries. watering for flooded, and
balancing for sealed unless you have a good battery monitor and
regulating system.
I bet most would keep modifying the instrumentation to get more data
unless they start with advanced instrumentation.
those are my answers, hope I passed (and it helps you out a bit).
