Also... I know that Gary Ellis owns an electric Miata here in Austin.

As others stated... Check out the GVWR to see how much weight can be
safely added to the vehicle.

I had a lot of added function (air conditioning) and blown parts
(clutch) in my first 500 miles as we were getting everything
working... but I've gone 3000 miles since then without any issues.  (I
just recharge, and water the batteries every once and a while.)
