I had the same expeirence with both of my vehicles. Nothing special had to
be done for title or inspection.

Hello to the AustinEV community!
My name is Gaurav Goel, and I am a Registred Patent Agent at Jackson
Walker. I have a fairly strong engineering background,
but I also enjoy working with my hands. I am very excited to learn
about fellow Austinites who have actually done the EV conversion and am
eager to see some of these vehicles and discuss your projects.
In addition to my fascination with cars, I am very interested in
alternative / green energy. I am also the organizer of the
Austin Alternative Energy Group on meetup.com
http://www.meetup.com/AAEGroup/
Please consider joining AAEG if you are interested in keeping up with
alternative energy topics.
Also, I am always looking for potential speakers and experts who want to
give a presentation as one of the AAEG upcoming events. Please let me
know if you are interested or would like to nominate anyone.
Thanks,
Gaurav

I have been trying to get information from TxDOT concerning vehicle
registration and inspection of a converted EV in Texas.
This is harder than pulling teeth, and nobody there seems to have any
idea what the Texas requirements are.
Since many of you have gone through this process, please refer me to any
regulations or rules you know of about registering your EV in Texas.
Thanks for your help!
Gaurav

To register and inspect your car you... register and inspect your car. I
was prepared for a lot of wrangling and phone calls to superiors and forms
submitted to agencies and lost, and it was none of that. I took my EV to
get inspected and there was no emissions to test, so the guy drove it around
the block and asked where he could buy an electric car. He really loved it,
he remembered me the next year I brought it back. After that I went to the
get the registration and I asked if I could change the title to say it's
electric, and I got a "we don't do that." Granted this info is a couple
years old now.
I'm since moved to Atlanta, and they have a rich and fulfilling bureaucratic
process to work through when you register a car as electric.

My story is pretty much exactly the same. Inspection was a breeze and fun.
The registrar didn't check EV clasification in the title, even though there
is one.
