AeroVironment Unveils EV Solutions at EVS-24
May 13 2009

New Portfolio Offers Total Infrastructure Solutions for Practical Use of
On-Road Electric Vehicles

AT EVS-24, STAVANGER, NORWAY, May 13, 2009 -- AeroVironment, Inc. (AV),
(NASDAQ: AVAV), joint-developer of the GM Impact, the world's first modern
all-electric car, and the record-setting solar-powered GM Sunraycer, today
unveiled its portfolio of EV Solutions for electric vehicles that offers a
total infrastructure approach to enable the practical use of on-road
electric vehicles.

AV's breadth of EV Solutions -- which includes Fast Charging Stations,
Neighborhood EV Charging Stations, and production test equipment for EV and
PHEV (plug-in hybrid) manufacturers -- enhances the practicality of EVs by
putting to rest "range anxiety" concerns and perceptions. Additional
portfolio solutions currently under development include on-board chargers
and a smart battery operating system featuring vehicle-specific algorithms
which maximize battery health while the vehicle is in motion or in charging
mode. The operating system will support both overnight and daytime "slow"
charging as well as opportunistic fast charging.

"AV's EV Solutions start at electric vehicle design and systems integration
and end with drivers being able to recharge their vehicles when and where
they need to in about the time it takes to fill a tank of gas," said Mike
Bissonette, senior vice president and general manager, AV Efficient Energy
Systems. "Our EV solutions are designed for the real world. With low power
charging systems located at home and at the workplace, and with fast
charging systems distributed strategically in metropolitan areas, EV drivers
can embrace clean transportation without the fear of being stranded, and EVs
can become a reliable and effective transportation alternative."

AV has conducted successful passenger and utility fast-charge tests in
conjunction with other companies, demonstrating extended battery range on a
single charge and the capability of "refueling" in less than 10 minutes
(http://www.avinc.com/pr_detail.asp?ID=64,

Bissonette said the EV Solutions portfolio technologies will also enable
fast charge of fleet electric vehicles, such as buses, taxis, delivery vans
and utility repair vehicles to increase the viability of all electric
vehicles.

AV was a pioneer in the conception and development of alternative energy
vehicles such as the GM Sunraycer, winner of the 1987 Australian Solar
Challenge, the GM Impact, prototype for General Motors' EV-1 electric
automobile, and several project-based hybrid electric and fuel cell powered
vehicles. AV created one of the first fast charge systems for early consumer
electric vehicles.

Its PosiChargeR fast charge systems support thousands of electric industrial
utility vehicles in daily use at Fortune and Global 500 facilities
throughout North America.

EV Commercial Solutions:

Industrial EV Charging Systems (3kW - 40kW per charge port, 80kW maximum per
system GSE, Port, and Industrial EV Chargers)

Industrial EV Charging Systems have been delivering increased productivity,
enhanced worker safety, and decreased operating costs to distribution
centers, manufacturing plants, and other industrial and commercial fleet
applications for ten years.

End of Line Test Equipment (Unidirectional and Bi-Directional)

Production Line Equipment that is a vital part of automotive and commercial
battery cell, module, and pack manufacturing and production.

Advanced Battery Systems Development Center

AV offers a variety of services to test and evaluate various battery
chemistries and battery applications, meeting all battery development needs.

Battery Pack Design-Development-Integration

Battery Pack Design Services can design, develop, and integrate battery
packs and cells to specifications.

Electric Vehicle Test Systems for Development Labs (Unidirectional and
Bi-Directional)

AC and DC systems ranging from 5 to 800 kilowatts enable automated, high
reliability testing of light to heavy-duty EVs, including multiple EVs
simultaneously.

EV OEM Solutions:

Advanced Battery Management System for EVs (Battery Management Systems)

BMS is designed for active cell balancing, real-time charge optimization,
vehicle dashboard communication, and maximization of battery performance and
life.

Advanced On-Board EV Charging Technology (3.3kW and above with
bi-directional option)

The on-board charging system will maximize throughput while optimizing the
vehicle battery's health and performance.

Level 3 Connector for High-Performance EV Fast-Fueling

EV Connector will enable energy delivery to an electric vehicle battery in
minutes, not hours.

EV Consumer Solutions:

EV Fast-Fuel Charging Stations (10kW - 250kW passenger EV Chargers)

EV Fast-Fuel technology will give EV drivers a reason to embrace the
cleanest transportation technology available, without the fear of being
stranded.

NEV Charging Stations (3kW - 20kW Neighborhood Electric Vehicle Chargers)

NEV charging stations provide a cost-effective solution allowing home and
business owners to "refuel" their vehicle from the convenience of their home
garage or office parking structures.

EVSE (Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment) Home and Commercial Charging
Stations will enable drivers to "fill up" their EVs and PHEVs from the
convenience of home garages and other convenient locations.
