If you keep the regular DLS-45, and have them send you the external IQ
charge controller... then you can place the IQ charge controller where
you please, and not have to worry about "moving the LEDs".

Though from using my DLS-45 for the past 18 months, I think I can
count on one hand the number of times I have cared to look at the LED
of the my IQ charge controller on my DLS-45 DC-DC converter.  You
could get just as much information (and more) by just installing a 12V
voltmeter on your 12V bus.  Looking at the voltage would tell you if
the DC-DC is charging or not, and would indicate (by voltage sag) if
you are providing enough current to your 12V bus from the DLS-45.

Also... I should think you want both ends of the DLS-45 to be open,
even if not accessible, to allow for air flow through the device.
