Hello,<br>
<br>
Now you are clear to me. Thanks. In regards to your question?<br>
<pre wrap=""><font color="#cc0000">My question - which type of motor (AC or DC) can also be used as a
generator without any modifications?
Typically only the DC motor can also be a generator but not all DC motors make good generators.
Hope this helps.

<pre wrap="">You are 100% correct :) I am confused...but because of very
knowledgeable forums like this one I am become less and less
confused...or you can say more and more confused but at a much more
sophisticated level :)
I recently read in a post that the Prius uses AC motors to power the
car and that sometimes one of the AC motors will be used in the regen
process to produce electricity to charge the battery.
My question - which type of motor (AC or DC) can also be used as a
generator without any modifications?
I hope that is a little clearer :)

<pre wrap="">Some distinction should be detailed here.
1. An AC motor generator is a set. It is an AC motor driving a
generator. At least the last time I worked on them.
Or if misconstrued as an alternator, which is on an automobile it is a
mechanically driven
AC generator rectified to DC.
2. An AC motor is not a generator
3. A DC motor can be a motor or generator, driven by some mechanical force.
I mention this because your query is a bit confusing in the sense you
seem to be confused about motors and generators and the distinction
between AC and DC.
If I'm incorrect please accept my apology.

<pre wrap="">I know that some motors can be made to generate electricity and
vice versa. Which is the most efficient combination? An AC
motor/generator or a DC motor/generator?
